Softball Preview: Salem Lions vs. Clarksville Generals

Salem is 8-0 against Clarksville since April of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Salem Lions will head out on the road to square off against the Clarksville Generals at 5:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Friday, everything went Salem's way against South Central as Salem made off with a 14-5 win.

Kendall Hickey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on four hits.

At the plate, Salem got a massive performance out of Danielle Potts, who went 1-for-5 with a home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Adie Feist, who went 2-for-5 with a home run, two RBI, and a double.

Meanwhile, Clarksville scored the most runs they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Rock Creek Academy with a sharp 16-5 victory.

Aaliyah Watts was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Watts has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive pitching appearances. Watts was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Kenzie Alexander was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and a triple. Another player making a difference was Avery Andres, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Salem's win bumped their record up to 2-5. As for Clarksville, their victory ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-7.

Everything went Salem's way against Clarksville when the teams last played back in April of 2023 as Salem made off with a 13-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Salem since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
