Basketball Game Preview: Mountain Vista Golden Eagles vs. Ponderosa Mustangs

Mountain Vista has gone 9-1 against Ponderosa recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Mountain Vista Golden Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the Ponderosa Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Mountain Vista's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests.

Mountain Vista is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Heritage: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Mountain Vista blew Heritage out of the water with a 92-39 final score. The Golden Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 23 points or more this season.

Mountain Vista got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kennedy Spellman out in front who went 15 for 27 on her way to 37 points along with seven steals and five assists. Spellman's evening made it nine games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kiarra Spellman, who went 9 of 19 en route to 26 points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Kennedy wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Mountain Vista was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Heritage only posted eight assists.

Meanwhile, Ponderosa had to suffer through a 77-30 loss at the hands of Rock Canyon. The Mustangs haven't had much luck with the Jaguars recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Mountain Vista has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. As for Ponderosa, their loss dropped their record down to 3-9.

Mountain Vista beat Ponderosa 64-54 in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mountain Vista since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
