Baseball Recap: Springfield Comes Up Short

Springfield had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-4 to make it four. They came up short against the Girard Indians, falling 13-3. The Tigers were not able to make up for their loss to the Indians from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

As for Girard, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.

For Girard's part, Ja'Den Royal made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. Royal has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and three RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zach Ward, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Will Hynes, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Looking ahead, Springfield will square off against Garfield at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Girard, they will take on Chaney at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The Indians are facing the Cowboys at the right time seeing as the Cowboys are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
