Baseball Recap: Six Straight Road Victories for Elgin

Elgin barely beat Lawton the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Elgin never let Lawton get on the board and left with a 12-0 win on Monday. The Owls have beaten the Wolverines the last eight times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Wolverines has come to flipping the script.

Ritson Meyer and Mason Thornton made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Meyer didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Meanwhile, Thornton pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Meyer a new career-low in walks (zero). At the plate, Meyer went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Thornton scored a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Elgin got a big performance out of Brody Morrison, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Jaxon Southerland was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Elgin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lawton only posted an OBP of .217.

Elgin's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Lawton, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-18.

Elgin will have a chance to go back-to-back against Lawton: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
