Baseball Game Preview: Chester Cyclones vs. Fairfield Central Griffins

For the first time this season, Chester will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Tuesday. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Fairfield Central Griffins at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

If Chester beats Fairfield Central with nine runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. Chester beat Lancaster on Friday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 9-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cyclones.

Meanwhile, Fairfield Central came into Friday's contest having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They put the hurt on Richland Northeast with a sharp 10-4 victory on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Griffins needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Kaden Diggs was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off one hit (and only one walk). What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing Five bases. while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in stolen bases.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Graeme Douglas, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He also put up a triple, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Landon Morgan, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.

Fairfield Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Chester now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Fairfield Central, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.
