Softball Recap: Alexandria Finds Home Field Redemption Against Lafayette

There's no place like home for Alexandria, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over the Lafayette Lions on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won 18 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Ella Melder made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run but no hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Mary Claire Brinkman was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Marlie Fletcher, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

Alexandria was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lafayette only posted a batting average of .235.

Alexandria pushed their record up to 26-8 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Lafayette, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 16-10 record.

Alexandria will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Lions: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled on Wednesday.
