Clayton is 8-2 against Smithfield-Selma since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Comets will take on the Spartans at 7:00 p.m. Clayton's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Smithfield-Selma's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Clayton made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Cleveland, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Comets' pitchers stepped up to hand the Rams a 9-0 shutout on Tuesday. Considering the Comets have won four matches by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, Smithfield-Selma was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 28th straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 10-0 to C.B. Aycock.

Smithfield-Selma saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Hartman, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base. Hartman has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

Clayton now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Smithfield-Selma, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-12.

Everything went Clayton's way against Smithfield-Selma in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Clayton made off with a 14-4 win. Will the Comets repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
