The Dayton Bulldogs will face off against the Touchet Redhawks at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Dayton knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Touchet likes a good challenge.
On Tuesday, Dayton made easy work of Tekoa-Rosalia and carried off a 17-2 win. Considering the Bulldogs have won four matchups by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Kyla Thurston made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Thurston was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Lila Hutchens was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Cindi Howard was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while going 4-for-4.
Dayton lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Touchet unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They came up short against Dayton back in March, falling 18-1. The Redhawks have struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Dayton pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.4 runs over those games. As for Touchet, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
Everything went Dayton's way against Touchet in their previous meeting back in March, as Dayton made off with an 18-1 victory. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Redhawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
