Softball Recap: Welsh Greyhounds vs. Grand Lake Hornets
Welsh came into Tuesday's contest having lost six straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They skirted past the Grand Lake Hornets 7-5. The win was just what Welsh needed coming off of a 7-1 loss in their prior matchup.
Alexis Hayes spent all seven innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.
On the hitting side, Maggie Johnson was incredible, going 3-for-3 with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenzie Vanness, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Welsh's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-13. As for Grand Lake, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-10.
Welsh will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Vinton at 5:00 p.m. Vinton will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Welsh surely won't give up without a fight. As for Grand Lake, they will head out on the road to challenge Lake Arthur at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
