Baseball Recap: Northridge Wins Going Away Against Box Elder

Northridge barely beat Box Elder the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Knights put the hurt on the Bees with a sharp 16-10 win on Monday. The Knights not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since March 27th (when they won 10-4).

Kam Shirreffs and Jon Olsen were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Shirreffs didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over 5.2 innings pitched. Meanwhile, Olsen didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. At the plate, Shirreffs went 4-for-7 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while Olsen got on base in four of his eight plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Isaac Anderson, who got on base in five of his seven plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Boston Wright was another key player, getting on base in five of his eight plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Northridge is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Box Elder, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northridge will host Woods Cross at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Knights' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season. As for Box Elder, they will welcome Clearfield at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
