League recap: Smithtown West stuns East Islip in upset

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Smithtown West, who took down 82nd ranked East Islip, 13-10.

West Islip extended the longest winning streak in Section 11 Division II this week by beating North Babylon, 43-21. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Lions.

Riverhead's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Blue Waves feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Ryan Bitzer has thrown for 970 yards and seven touchdowns this season, while Funn Quinn has 29 catches for 492 yards. Jerimiah Cheatom leads the league in rushing with 969 yards.

Cheatom of the Riverhead is only 31 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Smithtown East takes on the Redmen. The Bulls are currently in second, while East Islip is in third.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Smithtown East takes on Sal Ciampi's team. Jim Saladino's team has allowed 74 points this season, while the Redmen have given up 46.

Smithtown West moved up to 300 from 454 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Section 11 Division II. Smithtown West was able to make the jump by topping East Islip 13-10.
