Baseball Recap: Huntington Expression Prep Takes a Loss

Huntington Expression Prep extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-4 in the process. They came up short against the Hannan Wildcats, falling 11-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-6 back in March.

As for Hannan, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-14. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Hannan's part, Ian Chaffin made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Chaffin has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. Hannan is 2-1 when Chaffin posts three or more hits, but 4-13 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adam Dunn, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Rice, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases.

Looking ahead, Huntington Expression Prep is taking a road trip to take on Elliott County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Hannan, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 1-0 victory against Hundred on the 10th.
