It was a good run, but Russell unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the Fairview Eagles by a score of 4-3. The Red Devils were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 11-1.

Russell got a good showing from Lokelio Ancheta, who pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Ancheta a new career-low in walks (zero).

On the hitting side, Russell saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jared Whitt, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Russell's loss dropped their record down to 16-10. As for Fairview, they pushed their record up to 11-12 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Russell and Fairview should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Kentucky Rankings. The Red Devils (ranked 85th) will meet Ironton (ranked 202nd) at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Russell 4.1, the Fighting Tigers 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Fairview will face off against Chesapeake at 5:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (174 vs. 724).
