Softball Recap: Bellwood-Antis Extends Winning Streak to Two

Bellwood-Antis won against Central on Monday with eight runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Blue Devils beat the Richland Rams by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 8-7. This was payback for the Blue Devils, who suffered a 5-4 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Palynn Gregg was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over 11 innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-6 with one double. That double was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abby Claybaugh, who went 3-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Karlie Sweigert, who went 1-for-6 with two runs and two RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Bellwood-Antis and bumps their season record up to 4-8. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Richland, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Bellwood-Antis is set to square off against their familiar foe Bishop Guilfoyle at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Richland will take on rival Central Cambria at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
