Basketball Recap: Rawlins County Takes a Loss

If Rawlins County was riding high fresh off their 52-28 takedown of St. Francis last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Rawlins County Buffaloes had to suffer through a 81-54 loss at the hands of the Hill City Ringnecks. The Buffaloes were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-19.

Several Buffaloes players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tru Dewey, who went 6 of 8 to rack up 14 points and five rebounds. Dewey is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games he's played. Dominique Paz was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Hill City was led to victory by Carson Keith and Vincent Zohner. Keith went 11 for 22 on his way to 29 points and seven boards, while Zohner dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Keith has scored at least a third of Hill City's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Case Haynes, who posted eight points.

Rawlins County has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for Hill City, their victory bumped their record up to 5-9.

Rawlins County and Hill City could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings. Rawlins County will square off against Weskan at 6:00 p.m. on Monday down 168 places (298 vs. 130). Meanwhile, Hill City (ranked 259th) will meet Norton (ranked 53rd) at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
