After a string of six wins, Highland's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of the Mt. Vernon Rams by a score of 5-4. The Bulldogs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Rams earlier this season, when they won 3-2.

Highland's loss dropped their record down to 20-13. As for Mt. Vernon, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 13-19.

Looking ahead, Highland will be playing at home against Belleville East at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. The Lancers' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Mt. Vernon, they will head out on the road to challenge Centralia at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
