Preview: Tuscarora Huskies vs. Woodgrove Wolverines
Having just played yesterday, the Tuscarora Huskies will head out on the road to face off against the Woodgrove Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Tuscarora comes in on 14 and Woodgrove on seven.
On Tuesday, Tuscarora escaped with a win against Rock Ridge by the margin of a single free throw, 52-51. Given Tuscarora's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Rock Ridge is ranked 142nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Woodgrove posted their closest win yet this season on Tuesday. They skirted past Broad Run 64-62. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Colin Fuller was the offensive standout of the match as he scored 21 points. Another player making a difference was Jack Hill, who scored 14 points.
Tuscarora's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-1. As for Woodgrove, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Tuscarora against Woodgrove when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as the squad secured a 65-35 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Tuscarora since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
