Baseball Recap: Penquis Valley Comes Up Short

Penquis Valley extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 29 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 0-14 in the process. They lost 19-13 to the Schenck Wolverines. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolverines this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-2 back in April.

Brodie Lovejoy was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. Michael Coburn also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

As for Schenck, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-6. The result was nothing new for the Wolverines, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.

On Schenck's side, the team relied heavily on Trevor Vandine, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with four stolen bases, five runs, and two RBI. Vandine has become a key player for the Wolverines: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Owen Wyman was another key player, getting on base in two of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

Penquis Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Schenck, they will square off against Madawaska on Tuesday.
