Basketball Game Preview: Lugoff-Elgin Demons vs. Cathedral Academy Generals

The Lugoff-Elgin Demons and the Cathedral Academy Generals will round out the year against one another at at 2:00 p.m. on Monday. Cathedral Academy took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Lugoff-Elgin, who comes in off a win.

Lugoff-Elgin saw some tournament action on Saturday. They snuck past Cardinal Newman with a 57-53 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Demons.

Lugoff-Elgin's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Jordan Samuel, who posted 23 points in addition to six assists and three steals, and Teryn Hobson, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards. That's the most assists Samuel has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Erin Manuel, who put up four points along with eight boards and four steals.

Lugoff-Elgin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Cathedral Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 37-28 to St. Johns Country Day.

Lugoff-Elgin will need focus on slowing down Raven Williams, one of several Cathedral Academy players who made an impact when they last played. She had 12 points. Madison Jackson was another key player, putting up eight points.

Lugoff-Elgin's win bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Cathedral Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-12.
