Preview: Wray Eagles vs. Centauri Falcons
Wray has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against The Centauri Falcons at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, Wray didn't have too much trouble with Wiggins at home as they won 35-21.
Casey Midcap had a dynamite game for Wray, rushing for 89 yards and a touchdown, while also catching a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Collins, who picked up 83 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Centauri had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 38.6 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They claimed a resounding 45-0 victory over Monte Vista at home. Considering Centauri has won six games by more than 24 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
It was another big night for Parker Buhr, who rushed for 306 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 11.3 yards per carry. Buhr hasn't dropped below two rushing touchdowns for five straight games. Marcos Atencio was another key contributor, gaining 75 total yards and a touchdown.
Wray's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Centauri, their victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's matchup: Wray has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 212 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Centauri struggles in that department as they've been even better at 216.1 per game. It's looking like Saturday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Wray ended up a good deal behind Centauri in their previous meeting back in August of 2021, losing 28-14. Thankfully for Wray, Mason Claunch (who rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.8 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
