Recap: Topsail Pirates vs. South Brunswick Cougars
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Hoggard, the Topsail Pirates were happy to have found some success on Wednesday. They strolled past South Brunswick with points to spare, taking the game 65-48. That 17 points margin sets a new team best for Topsail this season.
Topsail was led to victory by Caden Wilson and Rhett Britt. Wilson scored 17 points, while Britt scored 17 points along with five rebounds and two steals. That's the first time this season that Wilson scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Duron Vaughn, who scored five points along with nine rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why South Brunswick lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jaelon Johnson. Despite the final result, he scored 20 points along with two steals. Johnson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Ziyon Smith was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Topsail's win bumped their record up to 4-10. As for South Brunswick, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-12.
Topsail will be playing in front of their home fans against Laney at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Laney is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road. As for South Brunswick, they will take on West Brunswick at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. West Brunswick is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 54.5 points per game.
