Volleyball Recap: Laguna Acoma Takes a Loss

After flying high against Navajo Pine on Saturday, Laguna Acoma came back down to earth. The Hawks fell just short of the Hozho Academy Wolves by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. While the Hawks didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Wolves 25-20 in the first set.

Laguna Acoma actually scored more points across those five sets (103-101), but sadly they still had to settle for second. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 20-25, 25-23, 25-20, 16-25, 15-10.

Kalie Poncho paced Laguna Acoma's offense, picking up ten kills. Poncho got some help from Leila Lorenzo and her 20 assists. Lorenzo was also solid from the service line: she led the team with six aces.

Laguna Acoma has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Hozho Academy, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-6.

Laguna Acoma has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Ramah on the 16th. As for Hozho Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-1 defeat against Rehoboth Christian on the 16th.
