Volleyball Game Preview: Layton Lancers vs. Roy Royals

The Layton Lancers will head out on the road to challenge the Roy Royals at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Roy took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Layton, who comes in off a win.

Last Thursday, Layton made easy work of Cyprus and carried off a 3-0 win.

While Layton won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the third set they played. The final score came out to 25-14, 25-17, 25-22.

Layton can attribute much of their success to Ben Peterson, who had 28 assists and two aces.

Peterson wasn't the only good server: Layton was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 14 aces. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cyprus only six aces.

Meanwhile, Roy came up short against Bountiful on Tuesday, falling 3-0. The Royals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

The match finished with set scores of 25-14, 25-20, 25-15.

Roy now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Layton, their victory ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-3.

Layton couldn't quite get it done against Roy when the teams last played back in March of 2024 as they fell 3-1. Can Layton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
