Baseball Recap: La Salle College Comes Up Short

While it was La Salle College who put the first runs on the board on Saturday, it was Springfield Township who put up more. The Explorers fell 7-4 to the Spartans. The Explorers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2022.

La Salle College got a good showing from Declan Cawley, who struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Cawley has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Dan Murray and Brycen Clarke stepped up to the plate in a big way. Murray got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run, while Clarke went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Dylan Carter, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for La Salle College and nudges their season record down to 15-4. As for Springfield Township, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season.

La Salle College does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Springfield Township, they will challenge Pennsbury at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Spartans 3.2, the Falcons 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
