Baseball Game Preview: Montville Mustangs vs. Chatham Cougars

Montville is 9-1 against Chatham since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Mustangs will take on the Cougars at 6:00 p.m.

On Wednesday, Montville came up short against Delbarton and fell 8-3. The loss continues a trend for the Mustangs in their meetings with the Green Wave: they've now lost seven in a row.

Montville saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Richie Mattina, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chatham). They put the hurt on Sparta with a sharp 10-3 win on Wednesday. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Montville's defeat dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Chatham, their win bumped their record up to 4-10.

Montville beat Chatham 7-4 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
