Softball Recap: Oak Grove Sets Scoring Season-High Against Meridian

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Oak Grove). They were the clear victors by a 19-4 margin over the Meridian Wildcats on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won six matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Haiden Leach spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits.

On the hitting side, Abbie Merchant was a standout: she went 3-for-6 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cadence Sheppard, who went 2-for-5 with one home run and three RBI.

Oak Grove hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive games.

Oak Grove now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Meridian, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-14.

Looking ahead, Oak Grove will head out on the road to take on Northwest Rankin at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something the Warriors surely won't give up without a fight. As for Meridian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Cleveland Central at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
