Football Recap: Sundown Takes a Loss

If Sundown was feeling good fresh off their 35-7 takedown of Plains last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Roughnecks were outmatched by the Ropes Eagles and fell 54-8. The contest marked the Roughnecks' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Zayden Pittman continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Ropes, rushing for 120 yards and a pair of TDs on only seven carries, while also catching one touchdown. Pittman also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making five total tackles and defending one pass. Kade Franklin was another key signal caller, throwing for 73 yards and a pair of TDs.

Sundown's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-5. As for Ropes, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 7-1.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Sundown will challenge rival Tahoka at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Ropes is set to face off against their familiar foe Seagraves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (Ropes 8.8, Seagraves 9.2) so any points scored will be well earned.
