Basketball Recap: Midway Comes Up Short

It was a good run, but Midway unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Wednesday. They were dealt a 70-35 loss at the hands of the Coalfield Yellow Jackets. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Green Wave have suffered against the Yellow Jackets since February 25, 2022.

Midway's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Addie Armes, who posted nine points. Kayla Patterson also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Midway's defeat dropped their record down to 20-11. As for Coalfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won 19 of their last 20 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 30-5 record this season.

Midway will venture away from home to square off against North Greene on Saturday. North Greene will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Midway surely won't give up without a fight. As for Coalfield, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Unaka. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Coalfield has won ten straight at home, while Unaka won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
