Softball Recap: Taft Takes a Loss

Taft had lost three straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped down to 21-7 to make it four. They fell just short of the Elk Grove Grenadiers by a score of 5-4. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Grenadiers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

Haley Eccarius made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

As for Elk Grove, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 13-11. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since April 12, 2025.

On Elk Grove's side, Brianna Magner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits.

At the plate, Kaylee Romanski and Keira McHorney did most of the damage at the plate: Romanski went 2-for-3 with one home run, while McHorney went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave McHorney a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bella Aguirre, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one double.

Taft and Elk Grove are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against Bulls College Prep at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Taft's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulls have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season. As for Elk Grove, they will square off against Glenbard East at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Grenadiers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rams have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season.
