South San Antonio had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 30-27 win over the McCollum Cowboys on Thursday. The team ran away with 28 points in the first half and mostly just sat on those to pick up the victory.

When it comes to explaining why McCollum lost, don't look at Jordan Casares. Despite the final result, he rushed for 75 yards and a pair of TDs, and also threw for 163 yards and two touchdowns. Casares was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 64 yards.

Looking ahead, South San Antonio will venture away from home to face off against Harlandale at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for McCollum, they will welcome Somerset at 7:00 p.m. on the 5th.
