Baseball Recap: Paw Paw Comes Up Short

Paw Paw extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 20-9 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Vicksburg Bulldogs. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Red Wolves have suffered since April 29th.

Gunnar Goodell made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

As for Vicksburg, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games.

On Vicksburg's side, they got a great performance from Hunter Bell as he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. Bell has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Maddox Rosalin, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Maguire Bowles, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Coming up, Paw Paw is taking a road trip to face off against South Haven at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Vicksburg, they will welcome St. Joseph at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Bears will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Bulldogs surely won't give up without a fight.
