Baseball Game Preview: Lake Gibson Braves vs. Durant Cougars

The Lake Gibson Braves will face off against the Durant Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Lake Gibson will be strutting in after a win while Durant will be coming in after a loss.

While Lake Gibson's victory against Davenport wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Braves won by a run and slipped past the Broncos 6-5. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Braves as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Stetson Jones tossed a big game, striking out ten batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Dalton Cone and Zach Roth did most of the damage at the plate: Cone scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2, while Roth scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Adiel Fundora also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Durant has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging four runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Thursday. They came up short against Plant, falling 12-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Cougars have suffered since March 17th.

Durant saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cooper Hughes, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

This is the second loss in a row for Durant and nudges their season record down to 13-8. As for Lake Gibson, their victory bumped their record up to 6-17.
