Soccer Game Preview: Genoa-Kingston vs. Marengo

The Genoa-Kingston Cogs will challenge the Marengo Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Neither squad made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Genoa-Kingston's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They skirted past Pecatonica 1-0.

Meanwhile, Marengo was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They lost 9-0 to Harvard. While losing is never fun, Marengo can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 465th, while Harvard are ranked 207th).

Genoa-Kingston's win bumped their record up to 9-10. As for Marengo, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-14.

Genoa-Kingston skirted past Marengo 2-1 when the teams last played back in August. Do the Cogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Indians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
