Basketball Recap: Tony Trujillo Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Cibola

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but La Cueva had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They came out on top against the Cibola Cougars by a score of 65-56. This was a revenge game for the Bears: when they faced off against the Cougars back in January, they had to take a 58-55 defeat.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead La Cueva to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tony Trujillo, who went 6-for-8 en route to 17 points and five boards. The contest was Trujillo's third in a row with at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Hunter Butler, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds.

La Cueva is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 19-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.9 points over those games. This is the second loss in a row for Cibola and nudges their season record down to 18-11.

La Cueva didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 82-48 loss against Volcano Vista on the 12th. Cibola does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
