Soccer Game Preview: Mt. Mansfield vs. South Burlington

The Mt. Mansfield Cougars will challenge the South Burlington Wolves at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Mt. Mansfield has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while South Burlington will arrive with five straight victories.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Mt. Mansfield's offense. They lost 5-0 to Burr & Burton on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Mt. Mansfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Vermont soccer rankings (they are ranked 26th, while Burr & Burton are ranked first).

Meanwhile, South Burlington hadn't done well against Champlain Valley Union recently (they were 0-7-1 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Wolves sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Redhawks. Two seems to be a good number for South Burlington as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of goals in their previous game.

Mt. Mansfield's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5-1. As for South Burlington, their win bumped their record up to 5-3-1.

Mt. Mansfield beat South Burlington by a goal in their previous meeting back in September, winning 1-0. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do Wolves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
