Basketball Recap: Zulema Montoya Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Joliet Central

Proviso East's tournament run continued when they took on Joliet Central on Saturday. The Proviso East Pirates narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Joliet Central Steelmen 30-27.

Proviso East got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Zulema Montoya out in front who posted seven points and 12 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Montoya a new career-high in rebounds. Ava Kimble was another key player, putting up 15 points.

Proviso East's victory bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Joliet Central, they now have a losing record at 7-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Proviso East will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Willowbrook at 5:00 p.m. on January 10, 2025.
