Basketball Recap: Nardin Academy Falls Despite Big Games from Fiona Cusack and Shania Johnson

After flying high against Buffalo Seminary last Tuesday, Nardin Academy came back down to earth. The Nardin Academy Gators lost 64-41 to the St. Mary's Lancers on Wednesday. The Gators haven't had much luck with the Lancers recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

Despite the loss, Nardin Academy had strong showings from Shania Johnson, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 11 points, and Fiona Cusack, who went 5 for 8 on her way to 10 points and six rebounds. Those 11 points gave Johnson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Braun, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine boards.

Having lost for the first time this season, Nardin Academy fell to 2-1. As for St. Mary's, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Nardin Academy will venture away from home to square off against Mount St. Mary Academy at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for St. Mary's, they will take on Grosse Pointe South at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. St. Mary's knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Grosse Pointe South likes a good challenge.
