Basketball Recap: Southern Valley Eagles vs. Holdrege Dusters
Southern Valley lost against Holdrege back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Southern Valley Eagles were dealt an 89-29 loss at the hands of the Holdrege Dusters. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 252nd, while the Dusters are ranked 11th).
Leading Holdrege to victory were Garret Johnson and Baron Medina. Johnson went 9 for 13 en route to 21 points and five steals, while Medina went 8 of 11 on his way to 22 points and five steals. The contest was Johnson's 14th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Moon, who posted eight points and five assists.
This is the second loss in a row for Southern Valley and nudges their season record down to 3-11. As for Holdrege, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season.
Southern Valley has already played their next game, a 54-44 defeat against Southwest on the 18th. As for Holdrege, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 79-52 victory against Kearney Catholic on the 21st.
