Softball Recap: Monessen Takes a Loss

Monessen had lost three straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 1-8 to make it four. They came up short against the Serra Catholic Eagles, falling 12-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-3 last Tuesday.

Monessen saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grace Clingenpeel, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

As for Serra Catholic, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-5 record this season. The result was nothing new for Serra Catholic, who have now won five matches by six runs or more so far this season.

On Serra Catholic's side, they got a massive performance out of Johanna Domek, who went 3-for-5 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those four runs gave Domek a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bianca Gajdos, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monessen will welcome Greensburg Central Catholic at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Serra Catholic, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Leechburg at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blue Devils have averaged an impressive 9.5 runs per game this season.
