Basketball Recap: Dhati Lewis' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Midtown over Pace Academy

Midtown has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. The contest between them and the Pace Academy Knights didn't end well, with the Midtown Knights falling 71-56. While losing is never fun, Midtown can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while Pace Academy is ranked 15th).

Midtown lost on Friday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Dhati Lewis, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds. Elonzo Milla was another key player, going 5 of 9 on his way to 13 points.

Even though they lost, Midtown smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive matches.

Pace Academy had a senior duo take command as Eric Chatfield went 10 for 19 en route to 27 points and six assists and Chandler Bing went 7 of 15 on his way to 22 points along with six boards and three steals. The game was Chatfield's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Brielen Craft, who posted three points and three steals.

Midtown's loss dropped their record down to 14-8. As for Pace Academy, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-4.

Midtown wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 63-60 defeat against St. Anne-Pacelli on the 1st. Pace Academy has also already played their next matchup, a 77-67 win against Jackson on the 4th.
