Football Game Preview: Glenelg Gladiators vs. Long Reach Lightning + Official Tickets

The Glenelg Gladiators will head out on the road to take on the Long Reach Lightning at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Glenelg and four for Long Reach.

Things were looking good for Glenelg after they put the first points on the board on Thursday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took a 28-16 hit to the loss column at the hands of Guilford Park. While the Gladiators didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Panther 10-0 in the first quarter.

The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Jailen Johnson and Tyler Lee. Lee had a great game and rushed for 201 yards and three TDs while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. Meanwhile, Johnson was balling out in the loss, rushing for 147 yards and one score on only 13 carries.

Even if they lost, Glenelg's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Leading the way was Yug Shah with two. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with 12. Doug Eakin was another major factor on D, making 11 total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Long Reach's offense. They were beaten by Oakland Mills 49-0 on Thursday. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Lightning were not able to get on the board.

Long Reach now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Glenelg, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.

Everything went Glenelg's way against Long Reach in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as Glenelg made off with a 21-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Gladiators since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
