Softball Recap: Waverly Tigers vs. South Point Pointers

It's playoff time, and Waverly had no trouble coming through when it counted. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the South Point Pointers 5-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.

Lexi Smith was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Addi Hudnell and Ava Robertson did most of the damage at the plate: Hudnell went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI, while Robertson went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Hudnell has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Hayden Jones, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

Waverly kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 9-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

Waverly's win bumped their record up to 13-14. As for South Point, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 19-9.
