Basketball Game Preview: Saguaro Sabercats vs. St. Mary's Knights

Two dominant guards in Alexa Simpson and Gwen Carter are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Saguaro Sabercats will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the St. Mary's Knights at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Last Thursday, Saguaro took their matchup with ease, bagging a 56-20 victory over Marcos de Niza. The Sabercats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 27 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Mary's). They claimed a resounding 77-41 win over Metro Tech. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point St. Mary's had established a 23 point advantage.

Saguaro better keep an eye on Carter. She was instrumental in St. Mary's win, going 16 of 25 en route to 37 points and eight steals. They are undefeated when Carter posts five or more steals, but 3-12 otherwise. Bella Soroko was another key player, putting up eight points and four steals.

The victory got Saguaro back to even at 12-12. As for St. Mary's, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-12.
