Baseball Recap: Ridgecroft Victorious

Ridgecroft hadn't done well against Pungo Christian Academy recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Ridgecroft walked away with a 6-3 win over Pungo Christian Academy. This was a revenge game for the Rams: when they faced off against the Raiders last Monday, they had to take a 4-0 defeat.

Dawson Collins made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. He has become a key player for Ridgecroft: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-3 otherwise.

Collins wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Landon Woodard, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Trace Farmer also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

The victory made it two in a row for Ridgecroft and bumps their season record up to 6-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for Pungo Christian Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season.

Ridgecroft will be playing at home against Cape Fear Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Cape Fear Christian Academy will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Ridgecroft surely won't give up without a fight. As for Pungo Christian Academy, they will head out to take on Halifax Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
