Basketball Recap: Mallory Hansen's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Elkhorn North over Waverly

Elkhorn North lost against Waverly back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Elkhorn North took a 54-38 bruising from the Waverly Vikings. While losing is never fun, Elkhorn North can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 69th, while Waverly is ranked 11th).

Elkhorn North's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mallory Hansen, who posted eight points. Kaylee Lake was another key player, putting up 11 points and four steals.

Elkhorn North now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Waverly, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-1.

Elkhorn North didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 69-35 win against South Sioux City on the 4th. As for Waverly, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 45-43 defeat against Gretna East on the 4th.
