Baseball Recap: Burlington Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Burlington had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They blew past the Verona Wildcats 8-1.

Carter Baumeister made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits. He is becoming a predictor of Burlington's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1 (and 8-13 when he doesn't). Baumeister was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with five RBI and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Carter Behling was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Trey Kerkhoff, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs.

Burlington's win bumped their record up to 11-14. As for Verona, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-11.

Burlington will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Wildcats: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
