Softball Recap: Notre Dame Prep Now 5-1 over Last Six Games

Notre Dame Prep hadn't done well against Horizon recently (they were 0-6 in their previous six matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Notre Dame Prep never let Horizon get on the board and left with an 11-0 win. Considering the Saints have won seven games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

The result came thanks to Marley Caldwell's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Maggie Spokas, who fired off two home runs, six RBI, and one double while going 3-for-3. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Kendall Gillham also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Notre Dame Prep is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. Horizon's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 6-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Notre Dame Prep will square off against Chaparral at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Horizon, they and Desert Mountain will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Desert Mountain will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something Horizon surely won't give up without a fight.
