Baseball Recap: Altamont Takes a Loss

Altamont fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Farina South Central on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 7-6. The Indians were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Keegan Schultz put in work while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in May of 2024. He was even better at the plate, going 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two doubles. That home run was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Brayden Elam was cooking despite his team's loss, going 4-for-6 with one home run and three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Kade Milleville was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his six plate appearances.

Even though they lost, Altamont kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive contests.

Altamont's defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Farina South Central, their record now sits at 3-1.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Altamont is set to face off against their familiar foe St. Anthony at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Altamont 4, St. Anthony 2) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Farina South Central will take on rival Brownstown/St. Elmo at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
