Softball Game Preview: Argos Dragons vs. River Forest Ingots

The Argos Dragons will take on the River Forest Ingots at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Argos made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Whitko, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Dragons fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 6-4 on Friday. The Dragons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Ivy Stackhouse was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Lexi Schenkel made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. She also put up a run, which was her first of the season.

River Forest had taken Whiting down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Tuesday. The Ingots lost 22-4 to the Oilers.

D'Yanna Hurn was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI.

River Forest's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-2. As for Argos, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Argos has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like River Forest struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Argos took their victory against River Forest when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-5 score. Do the Dragons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Ingots turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
