Preview: Clay City Eels vs. Dugger Union Bulldogs

Clay City is 3-0 against Dugger Union since December of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Clay City Eels will head out on the road to challenge the Dugger Union Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Clay City is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Dugger Union in Indiana (Clay City is ranked 318th, while Dugger Union is ranked 699th).

Clay City posted their biggest win yet this season on Saturday. They blew past South Vermillion, posting a 47-14 win on the road. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Clay City.

Kailyn Kirkling was her usual excellent self, scoring 16 points along with four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigale Shearer, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and two steals.

Meanwhile, Dugger Union's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their seventh straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 72-17 loss at the hands of White River Valley. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Dugger Union has suffered yet this season.

Brae Simpson put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored nine points. That was a full 52.9% of Dugger Union's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Clay City's victory ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-12. As for Dugger Union, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-14 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Clay City against Dugger Union when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 63-25 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Clay City since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
